…….. the Sustainable Way……
ECO FRIENDLY & ZERO WASTE SCHOOL SUPPLIES
New stationery and school supplies have always been an exciting time for most kids (and many adults too!) I mean, really… who here can say the same? The smell of a new book, or a new eraser in your bag….this in particular always excited me for a grand new adventure. Made the start of a new year a moment you just couldn’t forget. I can still remember the first days of a new year in my childhood…. who here can say the same? What is one thing that triggers your memory as a child in your Elementary years at the begining of the school year?
Keeping things sustainable for the new school year can definietly bring a sense of dread. The idea of sending your child off to school with plastic packaging, toxic components, and boxes of unused junk, oh my! It can get a bit overwhelming. Right?
To help, here are a few strategies for sustainable, low or zero waste school supplies:
- Use what you already have. Look after those forgotten notebooks (they’re usually full of mostly blank pages!). And tackle those loose pens at home! (They will likely work!! Use them!)
- Donate anything at home you think you will NOT use. Make room for things you can actually use.
- See what you can find secondhand!!! Gosh, I have been a big fan of Facebook Marketplace and Ebay lately. You can find some real gems there!
Oh…I forgot to mention, Ditch those “plastic” mechanical pencils. How about planting a tree with your used pencil? *Hehe*

We must shift our thinking away from short-term gain toward long-term investment and sustainability, and always have the next generations in mind with every decision we make.
